WILLIAM BEHNE
Mr. William Behne, 84, of 1428 Starr, died at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis hospital where he had been a patient since May 22. He had been in failing health since last October.
He was born Aug 29, 1879 in Burlington the son of William and Minnie Brookhiser Behne. He was a life resident of Burlington and was a retired carpenter, having worked for several local contractors.
He attended St. Lukes United Church of Christ and was a member of the Carpenters local.
On Aug 13, 1902, he married Margaret Wambsgans in Burlington.
Surviving are two children, John E. Behne, Oswego, Ill., and Mrs. Margaret D. Garrison, Burlington, one brother John A. Behne, Denver, Colo.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. One sister and one brother died earlier.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday from Prugh's chapel, Rev. Leonard Stark officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cenetery.

Mrs. Margaret Behne, 91, of 1428 S. Starr, died at 10 am Thursday, July 3 at Ft. Madison Sacred Heart Hospital.
She was born Sept 29, 1883 at Burlington, the daughter of John and Dora Huth Wambsgans. She married William Behne in Burlington on Aug 13, 1902. He died in 1964. She was a member of St. Luke United Church of Christ.
Surviving: one son, John Ocwego, Ill.; one daughter Mrs. Margaret Garrison, Burlington; one sister, Elizabeth Wambsgans, Burlington; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and one niece.
Funeral was Saturday at Prughs Chapel with burial in Memorial Part cemetery. Rev. Ernest Ellmers officiated.

He was born May 15, 1903 in Burlington to William and Margaret Wambsgans Behne. He married Helen Ruth Taylor Jan 20, 1940 at Dallas City, Ill.
Mr. Behne was a retired meat cutter. He was a member of Masonic orders.
Surviving his wife and a sister Margaret Garrison, Burlington.
Comittal 1 p.m. Thrusday in Memorial Park Cemetery the Rev. Richard Gilbert. A Masonic service will be conducted at the graveside. A Memorial has been established for Burlington Medical Center Cancer Division. (1)

Mr. Milo Clinton Garrison, 58, of 238 S. Sixth, died Thursday morning in Mercy Hospital. He was taken there early Thursday after becoming ill at home.
He was born Nov. 14, 1904 at Alliance, Neb. the son of Milo E. and Elizabeth Ingersoll Garrison, and was married to Margaret Behne here February 4, 1924.
Mr. Garrison was employed as a clerk in the Burlington Railroad office since 1922. He was a member of First Christian church, Malta Lodge 318 A.F. 7 A.M., and St Omer Commandary 15, Knights Templar.
Surviving his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Schach, Jr. and Mrs. George Smyth, both of Burlington; three grandchildren; a sister Mrs. Alithea Daly, of Burlington; and his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Bryant, of Burlington.
Services will be Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Prugh's chapel. The Rev. L.Z. Patton will officiate. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Memorial Park.

Mrs. Kate Hartman, 73, of 1603 Summer street, died at her home Saturday evening after a long illness She was born in Burlington the daughter of William and Minnie Behne, On Dec 18, 1901 she married Charles W. Hartman at Burlington.
Mrs. Hartman was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and the Hawkeye Natives.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter Mrs. George Shaklin of Burlington; two brothers William Behne of Burlington and John Behne of Denver, Colo; one grandson, 2 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
One brother and her parents proceeded her in death.
Funeral Services will be held Monday at 3:20 pm from the Giles Funeral Home. Dr. M.E. Lehmann will officiate and burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m.

Charles W. Hartman, 712 N. Sixth, died in Burlington hospital Saturday. He was 80 years old last Christmas Day.
La___rites will be at Giles funeral home Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Officiating will b e Dr. M.E. Lehmann, pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church, of which Mr. Hartman was a member. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
A native of Burlington. Hartman was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Hartman. On Dec. 18, 1901, he married Katie Behne. They were married in Burlington.
Survivors are, Mrs. George O. Shanklin, with whom he made his home; a sister Mrs. John Thomas, Burlington; a grandson, and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hartman died previously, as did three brothers and two sisters.

Ruth W. Shanklin, Orlando, Fla. formerly of Burlington died Saturday, April 27, 1991, in Orlando.
Born Feb. 11, 1903, she was the daughter of Charles W. and Katie Hartman. She married George Shanklin Oct. 29, 1921. He preceded her in death.
Se and her husband were owners of Shanklin Jewelry on North Hill for 25 years. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, E.C. Blackman Eastern Star, Palestine Shrine, Pyramid Temple Daughters of the Nile and the Red Cross board. She moved to Florida in 1986, living in Fort Walton Beach and Orlando.
Surviving are one son Robert O. Shanklin, Fort Walton Beach Fla.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, including Jamie Shanklin of Burlington.
        Ruth married George SHANKLIN on 29 Oct 1921 in Burlington. George was born on 26 Jan 1902 in Burlington. He died in Sep 1964.

Funeral services have been held in Denver, Color., for John A. Behne, 87, a Burlington native, who died Dec. 28 in Denver.
He was born Dec. 21, 1884, in Burlington and worked as an engineer on the C.B. & Q., Colorado and Southern railroads.
Surviving his wife, Pearl, one step-son Loren McMannana, of California; two nieces and one nephew.

THEODORE J. BEHNE
Theodore Joseph Behne, 82, lifetime Burlington Citizen and veteran police officer, died Wednesday, Oct 6, 1993, while attending the Iowa State Police Associations annual conference in Waterloo.
Born May 5, 1911 in Burlington, he was the son of John and Clara Saftig Behne. He married Louise P. Thye June 29, 1938 St. Patricks Church in Burlington.
He was a graduate of St. Patrick's School and the Burlington Commercial School. He worked for Western Union and the Iowa Soap Co., then owned the Willy's Jeep franchise at the intersections of Corse and Mark Lane prior to World War II.
Mr. Behne worked for the Burlington Police Department for 25 years, beginning May 1, 1941. He served as patrolman, sergeant in charge of the school patrol, lieutenant and captain in charge of the city traffic department and chief of police.
Following his retirement from the police department, he became a lieutenant and then assistant chief of the Iowa Army Ammunition Plants Guard Force. He sold real estate for awhile and then helped organize the Des Moines County Sheriffs Department during the term of Rick Glick. In 1978 he opened Behne, Ellerhoff, and Lewis Realty with Ron Elleerhoff and Richard Lewis.
For the past five years he dedicated his time to serve as president of the Burlington Police Department's chapter of the Iowa state Police Association, Unit No. 3. During that time he conducted fund-raising events for the benefit of deceased police officers families. His last fund event, a country and western show at Burlington High School was in September 1993.
Mr. Behne was elected a delegate to represent the Burlington Police Association at the 1993 Conference of the Iowa State Police Association in Waterloo which he was attending at his death.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter Bonnie Jean Wanbach of rural Burlington; a son Theodore A. Behne of Burlington; two sisters Marie Meyer and Frances Gorman, both of Burlington 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Friends may call after 8 am Friday at Lunning Chapel. Friends may attend a vigil service and visitation from 6 to 8 pm Friday at the Chapel.
The funeral for Mr. Behne will be 10:30 am Saturday at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Michael Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.

Mrs. Katherine Louise Hartman, 74, 1208 Summer died at Mercy Hospital Monday afternoon at 4:20 after an extended illiness.
She was born in Burlington, Aug 30, 1887, the daughter of William J. and Wilhelmina Dietz Brookhiser and was married to Fred Hartman Oct. 23, 1907.
She was a member of Spring Grove Methodist Church and the Auxiliary of the Spanish-American War Veterans and V.F.W.
Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Clinton Bowman and Mrs. Guy Schnedler both of Burlington, one son Lester Hartman, Morning Sun; two brothers Frank Brookhiser of McGregar, Minn. and William Brookhiser of West Burlington, two sisters Mrs. Grover Wilson, New London, and Mrs. Lorenz Vahle, Rt 1; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, one son, one brother and three sisters died previously.
Services will be held in Prugh's Chapel, Thrusday afternoon at 2 o'clock Rev. Earl Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

SPANISH - AMERICAN WAR VET DIED AT 96

The ranks of Spanish-American war veterans, once a lose-knit throng playing a viral role in Burlington's growth, have thinned in recent decades as age and infinity have done what tropical dieses and 19th century Spanish arms could not.
The reunions of those proud soldiers were suspended in later years as only two veterans remained - Walter W. Fritzche 1803 Madison, and Fred Hartman recently retired to live in Park Manor Nursing Home.
Fritzche stood alone Friday as the city's only living link, to military history of another century; Hartman died at 96 in Park Manor about 4:40 a.m.
He was born March 31, 1877 in Des Moines County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Killian Hartman. He married Katherine Brookhiser on Oct 23, 1907 in Burlington. She died Nov. 27, 1961.
Mr. Hartman was a member of the V.F.W., the Street and Electric Railway Union and Spring Grove United Methodist Church. He was a street car motorman and city bus driver for 26 years.
SURVIVING: two daughters, Mrs. Clinton (Marcella Bowman, and Mrs. Clay (Florence) Schnedler, both of Burlington: one son Lester C. New London; one brother Frank Burlington, 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildern.

Florence Ann Schnedler, 96, of Burlington, died at 2:40 p.m. Sunday Aug 7, 2005, at the care center.
Born Sept 12, 1908, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Fred and Katherine Louise Brookhiser Hartman. On April 21, 1925, she married Guy E. Schnedler in Burlington. He died April 15, 1982.
Mrs. Schnedler was a homemaker. She also worked as a porduction worker for the Army ammunition Plant.
She was of the Protestant faith. She loved to play bingo.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Shoemaker of Burlington; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Marcella Bowman of Burlington; nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son and one brother.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Prugh's Chapel. There will be no family visitation.
The graveside committal service for Mrs. Schnedler will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Aspen Grove Cemetery, with Pastor Charles Stevens officiating.
        Florence married Guy E. SCHNEDLER, son of Edward SCHNEDLER and Mary DOAK. Guy died on 15 Apr 1982 in Burlington, Iowa.

Guy E. Schnelder, 79, of 1604 S. 12th died at 9:05 p.m. Thrusday April 15, at St. Francis Continuation Care Center.
He was born Jan 9, 1903 at Clark County, Mo., to Edward and Mary Doak Schnelder. He married Florence A Hartman, April 21, 1925 at Burlington.
Mr. Schnelder was retired after 19 years as a Burlington city bus driver and 15 years as a foreman at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. He was protestant.
Survinving: his wife, a son Edward Schnelder, Davenport; a daughter, Mrs. Oral (Betty) Shoemaker, Burlington, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; four sisters Mrs. Dora McCarty, Mrs. Bertha Cooper, Mrs. Lottie McCarty and Mrs. Delford (Helen) Culp, all of Burlington.

Mrs. Mathilda Amelia Willson, 76, New London, died at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday May 13, in Memorial Hospital after she was stricken at her son's rural West Burlington home Tuesday night.

Grover A. Willson, 67, died at St. Francis Hospital at 8:55 p.m. Sunday. He had been a patient there for eight days.
He was born in Garland, Dec 24, 1894, the son of George and Alice Congrove Willson. He married Matilda Brookhiser at Burlington Sept 25, 1917. Willson a retired farmer from New London, was a member of the New London Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include: his wife; four sons, Grover jr. Morning Sun; Ralph A., 324 Adams; James E. Iowa City; William D. 900 S. 10th; three daughters: Mrs. Lucille Horn, Mt. Union; Mrs. Lois Seins, Malibu, California; and Mrs.Anna Louise Comstock, Mt. Pleasant; two sisters: Mrs. Cora Siverly, Fransno, calif., Mrs. George Hay, Chicago, a brother Ralph C. Chicago; 18 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at the Elliott-Lunning Chapel Wednes at 2 p.m. The Rev. John Wollen and the Rev. William Rusterhaven will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Grover Willson, 69, passed away at 2:45 a.m. Sunday, June 16, 1991 at the University of Iowa Hospitals following complications from cancer.
Grover was born August 16, 1921 in Des Moines County, the second son of Grover Willson, Sr. and Mathilda Brookhiser Willson. He farmed near Yarmouth for 28 years after serving as a staff-sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, flying 31 missions over Japan in a B-29 bomber. For the past 16 years he has resided in Medeapolis working as a carpenter and driving delivery for Delta Wholesale Pharmaceutical Company.
He has served on the Farm Bureau Board and the Des Moines County Farm Service Board for many years. He was an active member of the Daniel Matson American Legion Post 243, the Iowa Organization of Odd Fellows and the Yarmouth Community Church. Many days were spent in his favorite pastime of gardening and fishing.
Grover graduated from Yarmouth High School in 1940, and married Elnora V. Vandermark in Pleasant Grove on May 23, 1943. Of this union, three children were born Karen, Terry, and Patti.
He is survived by his wife, Elnora, Medeapolis; daughters Karen (Robert Douglas) Clay, Burlington and Pattie S. (Rick L.) Van Winkle, Medeapolis. Grandchildren Jeffery Grover Strauss, U.S. Air Force, South Korea, and Kelli V. Clay Burlington, Dustin Richard and Devin Willson Van Winkle, Medeapolis; and a great-grandchild, Garrett Scott Strause. Brothers and sisters: Lucille (Dale) Horn, Mt. Union; Lois (Art) Rosales, Union Oregon; Ralph Willson, Burlington; James Willson, Boca Raton, Florida; William Willson, Burlington; Anna (Donald) Comstock, Mt. Union and sister-in law, Wahnetta (Frances) Willson Goble, Medeapolis and Renee Burg, Burlington 18 nieces and nephews and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Terry.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Medeapolis.

Dale Everett Horn, 73, of 20663 210th St. Mt. Union died at 10:24 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 1994 at Burlington Medical Center.
Born July 23, 1921 in Yarmouth, he was the son of J.E. and Orva Featherby Horn. On Feb. 26, 1941, he married Lucille Willson in Yarmouth.
Mr. Horn was a farmer, sold Crows Seed Corn, and was a mechanical foreman at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant.
He fought in World War II in the 83rd Army Division, serving in France, and was a purple heart recipient. He attended Yarmouth Community Church. He was a member of the Yarmouth Gun Club, the V.F.W. of New London, the American Legion of Medeapolis and the Disabled American Veterans of Burlington.
Survivors include his mother of New London, his wife; one son Robert Lee Horn of Burlington; three daughters Marjorie Horn, of Wapello, Mary Hockett of West Burling and Nancy Kester of Burlington; eight grandchildren, three brothers Earl Horn of New London, Dwight Horn of West Burlington and Lyle Horn of Mt. Union; two sisters Helen Bauman of West Burlington and Mona Quiroga of Lancaster, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his father and one son.
Visitation will be after 8 a.m. Monday at Lunniing Chapel, where the family will receive friends between 7 and 8:30 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Horn will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Gordon Simms officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Lois J Siens, 77, of La Grande, Ore, died of natural causes Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, in Grande Ronde Hospital.
Born Feb 25, 1927, in Des Moines, she was the daughter of Grover and Mitilda Willson. On July 31, 1949, she married Glendard Siens in Morning Sun. He died in April 2000.
Mrs. Siens operated a gas station in the Mojave Desert for a time. She later owned and operated a station in the Eugene, Ore, area.
She was raised and educated in Des Moines, where she graduated from high school. She enjoyed collecting porcelain dolls, fishing and going on rides.
Survivors include two brothers James Willson of Burlington and William Willson of West Burlington, and Lucille Horn of Mediapolis and Anna Comstock of Mt. Pleasant.
At her request no services will be held.

He was a Koran War Army veteran, receiving a purple heart after being wounded. He was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of VFW post 10102, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and Elks Club. He loved playing cards, Mack trucks, and taking care of stray dogs.
Survivors include one son Steve Willson of Burlington; three sisters, Lucille Horn of Burlington, Lois Siens of La Grande, Ore., and Anna Comstock of Mount Pleasant; two brothers, William D. Willson of West Burlington and James Willson of Boca Raton, Fla.; one aunt; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend Alan Frasu of Augusta.
Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be after 8 a.m. Tuesday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Born May 19, 1926, in Chariton, he was the son of Ruth Shull Carlon. Age 3 he was given to the Iowa Soldiers and Orphan Home in Davenport, later named the Anne Wintermeyer Home. At a young age he was taken as a foster child by Jessie and Lydia Swartz Comstock of the Shiloh area later became the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. On July 5, 1955, he married Anna L. Willson in rural Mt. Pleasant.
Mr. Comstock farmed for 28 years and retired from General Electric after 22 years.
He moved to rural New London in 1936. He served in the Korean War for two years while stationed at Fort Benning, Ga. He attended the Mt. Pleasant Open Bible Church.
Survivors include his wife, one son Marvin Comstock of Iowa City; two daughters Donna Strand of Blooming Prairie, Minn, and Sara Short of Mt. Pleasant; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters he located in 1999, Mary J. Throckmorton of Chariton and Beverly Frecker of Tampa, Fla.
Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Monday at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until time of the services Tuesday at the Mount Pleasant Open Bible Church.

Mrs. Esther Wilson, 48, 603 S. Gertrude Street, took her own life sometime Wednesday by inhaling gas, Coroner Robert Giles reported.
She was found lying on the kitchen floor near the gas stove which had one burner open, by her husband, William, when he came home from work. Police and firemen were summoned but Mrs. Wilson was pronounced dead and resuscitation was not attempted.
Giles said the husband asserted she had been despondent over ill health for some time. He announced there would be no inquest.
She was born March 6, 1898, in Des Moines County and was a life resident. She married William Wilson at Oquawka, Ill., May 31, 1925.
Surviving are her husband; 2 sons Robert and Frank, and 2 daughters Gladys and Marian, all of Burlington; her father, William Brookhiser, Burlington; 3 sisters Mrs. Fred Hartman and Mrs. Lorenze Vahle, of Burlington and Mrs. Grover Wilson, Morning Sun, and 2 brothers Frank Brookhiser, Marion, Ia; and William Brookhiser, Wever.

Frank "Corky" Philip Wilson, 77, of Forest Grove, Ore. Died Thrusday afternoon Feb 2, 2006, at Marquies Care in Forest Grove.
Born Dec. 30 1928, in Burlington, he was the son of William "Buck" and Esther Brookhiser Wilson. on Oct 22, 1849, he married Janice L. Luellen in Kahoka, Mo.
Mr. Wilson was an electrical engineer for Northrop an aerospace company until his retirement.
He received his education in Burlington Schools. He was an Air Force veteran and served for four years. He and his wife mved to Morro Bay, Calif. Following their marriage and then to Pacoima, Califr., following his discharge. In 1985 following their retirement they moved to Gaston, Ore., to be closer to their children, where they lived for 20 years. In 2005, they moved to Forrest Grove. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Blooming (Cornelius) Ore., where he served as an elder for a number of years. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed singing barbershop. He also was a member of SPEBSQSA for many years.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Kathy Wilson of Forest Grove; one son Corey Wilson of Mountiandale, Ore., three granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; one sister Maian Hawkinson of Coal Valley, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
A memorial service for Mr. Wilson was Tuesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Blooming with the Rev. Michael Warmbier officiating. A Private family graveside was in St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery.

Vivian E. Brookhiser, 88, of Iowa Falls, formerly of Denmark and Fort Madison, died at 3:20 am Thrusday, Feb 12, 2004, at Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls.
Born May 28, 1915, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Walter R. and Cordilla Ruth Kinginsmitt Gittings. She first married John Sams. He died in 1947. On Oct 11, 1949, she married Raymond L. Brookhiser in Fort Madison. He died Jan 31, 1987.
Survivors include one sister, Mary Jane Sanders of Unionville, Mo., and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.
Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at King-Lynk Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel Moore officiating. Burial will be in Claypoole Cemetery in Wever.

HACKER - BROOKHISER VOWS ANNOUNCED
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hacker, 1014 Court Street, announce the marriage of their daughter to Pvt. Robert Brookhiser, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Brookhiser Jr. of Wever, which took place at the Brookhiser home, Friday Nov. 10 at 5 P.M.
Marjorie Hacker served as her sister's attendant and William L. Brookhiser, brother of the bride groom was best man. Rev. G. M. Rosenberg, pastor of Burlington Circuit Churches officated.
The bride wore a white satin and net dress and Finger-tip pompoms and baby breath. The bridemaids dress was of pink taffata. She wore a shoulder length pink veil and carried pink and white pompoms.
The bridegroom returned to Camp Ellis, Ill., Monday. The bride will continue to make her home with her parents for the duration.

BURLINGTON- Robert C. Brookhiser, 61, of Wever, died at 1:30 a.m. saturday, June 12, at the Burlington Medical Center.
Mr. Brookhiser was born Jan 8, 1921 in Burlington. He was president of Audubon-Brookhiser Transport Inc. He was a member of the Fort Madison Chamber of Commerence, the board of directors of the Southeast Iowa Alcohol and Drug Council, the Lee County Republican Central Committee and a charter member of President Reagan's Presidential Task Force, the Odd Fellows Lodge of Wever, the advisory Committee of the Iowa Department of Transportation and a past president of the North Lee County Historical Society. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.
On Nov 10, 1944, he married Kathryn L. Hacker, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Robert Jr. and Michael both of Burlington; five daughters, Mrs. Peg Taylor, West Burlington; Judy Brookhiser, a student at Indiana University, Mrs. Kathleen Warner, Fort Madison, Mrs. Joyce Synder, Colusa, and Mrs. Helen Smith, Winfield; his mother Mrs. Blanche Brookhiser, of Wever; three brothers, Raymond of Denmark, Harold of Wever, and William Jr. of Iron Mountian, Mich; a sister Mrs. Marian Johnson of West Burlington and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, William and two daughters.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Prugh's chapel in Burlington with the Rev. Fred Moore officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Burlington. The family will meet friends from 7:30 to 9 this evening at the Prugh Chapel.
A memorial is being established with the cancer department of Burlington Medical Center. Contributions may be made at the Prugh Chapel.

Born Feb 14, 1927 in Burlington, he was the son of William and Blanche Milliman Brookhiser. He married Maryo Ostrander on Sept 4, 1976, in Indianapolis.
Mr. Brookhiser was a retired electrical engineer.
Survivos include his wife; five sons, David Brookhiser of Jamesville, Wis., Randy Brookhiser of Ottumwa, Andrew Brookhiser of Milton, Wis.k, Donnie Ostrander of Westfield, Ind., and Drant Brookhiser of Sheridan, Ind., two daughters, Dorothy Ostrander of Sheridan, and Donna Webb of Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one brother Harold Brookhiser of Wever, one sister Marian Johnson of West Burlington, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, two brothers and one daughter.
Visitation will begin a 2 p.m. Friday at the King-Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Brookhiser will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. David Moore officiating. Burial will be in Claypoole Cemetery in Fort Madison.
A memorial has been established for Spring Grove Church. Contributions may be left at the Funeral home.

Born Jan 24, 1937, in Burlington, he was the son of Lorenz Henry and Florence Marie Brookhiser Vahle.
He is a member of Spring Grove Methodist Church , the Burlington National Guard, Alpha Company 224th engineers and Des Moines County Riding Club. He enjoyed football, fishing, western movies, cartoons, horses, camping, cats, dogs and home cooked meals.
Survivors include one son, Bruce A. Vahle of Mediapolis; two daughters, Cheryl K. Smith and Julie A. Nixon, both of Burlington; six grandchildren; two sisters, Emma L Bruhl and Jean Day both of Burlington; three nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
His body has been cremeted.

Louie Day, 65, Burlington, died at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at Great River Medical center in West Burlington.
Born March 5, 1938, in Ariton, ala., he was the son of Melvin Chester and Essie Viola Jackson Day. On Dec. 20, 1959, he married Norma Jean Vahle in Burlington.
Mr. Day worked for the Des Moines County Secondary Road Department for 32 years.
He was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the musicians union and Father of Local 828 of Burlington and of Local 2205 for Des Moines County. He was a commercial fisherman and band leader of the "Louie Day and the Georgia Ramblers" band.
Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Virginia Eastin, Wapello and Lori Parcil of Davenport, two grandsons; one sister Sue Harrington of Apache Junction, Ariz.; his father of Atlanta, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and two half sisters.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service Monday at Prugh's chapel.
The memorial service for Mr. Day will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Prugh's chapel with the Rev. David Mixon and Mr. Day's grandson, Drew Day Eastin, officiating.
A memorial has been established in his memory.

DIES AT OAKDALE
William A. Rehm 26, passed away at 9:30 o'clock Monday morning at Oakdale, Ia after an extended illness.
William A. Rehm was born May 5, 1905 in Germany and came to America with his parents in 1913, directly to Burlington where he made his home since. He was an employee of the Economy Shoe Store for a number of years. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rehm, who were at his bedside at the time of his death, also three brothers, Henry Rehm Jr., of Denmark, Ia. Carl and eGorge of this city and one sister Mrs. Milton Diercks of this city, two aunts and a number of cousins and nephews and his wife.
The body was taken to the Barrett-Wallen funeral home last night. Funeral arrangements are pending.
